What is TK?

What is transitional kindergarten (TK)?

Transitional kindergarten (TK) is a school-readiness year between preschool and kindergarten for 4- and 5-year-olds. At Ascend To The Heights, TK is the next step after Preschool 3: a more structured classroom where kids practice the reading, writing and math skills kindergarten expects.

Our Spokane transitional kindergarten class is a private TK program, separate from the free Transition to Kindergarten program some Washington school districts offer. It runs full day and year-round, and a new curriculum starts each fall.

Lessons are catered to each child’s level, so kids who are ready for more get challenged and kids who need more practice get it.

A predictable, kindergarten-style routine, from drop-off to pickup.

6:00 AM · Arrival

Drop off from 6:00 AM with secure Procare check-in, then quiet table activities as friends arrive.

Morning circle

Calendar, the day’s sight words and a phonics song or story.

Literacy block

Phonics, sight word practice and handwriting, at each child’s level.

Outdoor play

Running, climbing and exploring on our fenced playground.

Lunch & rest

A healthy lunch made on site, followed by rest time.

Math, centers & pickup

Hands-on early math, worksheets and learning centers, then free play until pickup by 6:00 PM.

Hi my name is Shane I'm a single dad of 3 girls and I used this daycare for about 7 years when my girls went in I was reluctant but the first week they went they started behaving better at home fr. I kept my kids enrolled because this isn't just a day care it's a community that really cares about your kid and your family fr every holiday is celebrated they literally help u if u need it I am a single dad took my three girls through elementary school by my self and at least half that credit should go to this daycare  they are literally life savers ty flower and family I soooo appreciate you
